Tchestita Baba Marta – Spring is here!

Spring is here! Or is it…

On March 1st, Bulgarians celebrate “Granny March” (Baba Marta – Баба Марта), a mythical figure who brings with her the end of the cold winter and the beginning of the spring. The exchange of “Martenitzi” happens between friends, sometimes taking the form of  red-and-white interwoven string bracelets that wish health and happiness to its recipient.

Doesn’t look like spring is close to arriving here in Montréal however, Montréalers took to the streets on the evening of March 2nd – 3rd to celebrate Montréal en Lumière’s 10th edition of Nuit Blanche. Briga joined some of her friends and exchanged Martenetzis on top of checking out  visual arts, music, film, theatre, dance, literature, flights of fancy, and many other surprises in store. Let’s call it Montréal’s own version of the Baba Marta celebrations!

Anyways, we’ve got an exciting year up ahead and we’ll be able to divulge the  news to you soon but in the meantime … we’ll keep you entertained with some of the fun stuff from that’s been happening this past winter. Check it out by clicking on the above images.
